About Us
The Birth of Brass Bell Family Resource Centre
Brass Bell Family Resource Centre came into existence in December 1991. It was established within the newly constructed Dorion Public School in response to a government mandate at the time, which required all new school constructions to include a built-in child care facility. However, due to the lack of community need and feasibility, Brass Bell never operated as a child care at the Dorion location.
Transition to a Family Resource Program
The volunteer board of Brass Bell explored alternative options and funding opportunities. Their efforts led to the creation of a family resource program, which officially opened its doors in 1993 with a program mandate to promote healthy child and family development.
Expanding Community Support
Over the years, Brass Bell expanded to the seven communities we currently serve and has become a cornerstone for families during the early years, offering an engaged and supportive community environment. We have grown a dedicated and passionate team committed to nurturing the health and well-being of children and families.
The Origin of the Name "Brass Bell"
The name "Brass Bell" holds historical significance. It was suggested by the principal of Dorion Public School, who wanted to preserve the legacy of the original "brass school bell" that was used in the old Dorion Public School. This name serves as a tribute to the school’s history and continues to symbolize the connection between the past and present in the community.
